Why Storm Response Matters

Insurance claims are won in the first 72 hours.

Storm damage is time-sensitive in three ways: (1) water damage compounds every hour, (2) insurance carriers expect immediate documentation, and (3) most policies have 12-month claim deadlines that move faster than people realize.

The wrong contractor turns a roof claim into a $20K out-of-pocket nightmare. The right contractor — one who knows the documentation language adjusters need, attends the inspection with you, and pushes for full replacement when warranted — turns the same damage into a paid claim with a brand-new roof.

We’ve negotiated thousands of DMV storm claims. We know what works.

What storm damage repair costs.

In the DMV, almost all storm damage is covered by homeowner's insurance. Your out-of-pocket cost is typically only the deductible.

What changes the number for your home

  • Deductible. Your policy's deductible is your typical out-of-pocket — usually $500-$2,500
  • Scope dispute. If the adjuster's scope is incomplete, we negotiate for additional items
  • Code upgrades. Most policies cover code-required upgrades (ridge ventilation, ice/water shield)
  • ACV vs. RCV. Actual Cash Value vs. Replacement Cost Value affects payout structure
  • Mortgage company. If you have a mortgage, lender may hold check until work progresses
  • Supplemental claims. Additional damage discovered during work can be added to claim
  • Upgrade options. Premium upgrades beyond like-kind replacement are out-of-pocket
  • Tarping. Emergency tarping is usually covered as part of mitigation
How It Works

From storm event to brand-new roof — typically 6-12 weeks.

01

Free storm inspection

We come out within 24-48 hours, document damage with photos, tarp if needed, and explain whether your damage meets carrier criteria for replacement.

02

Insurance claim filing

You file with your carrier. We provide documentation. We attend the inspection with you (or your adjuster).

03

Scope negotiation

If adjuster's scope is incomplete, we provide a counter-scope with supporting documentation. We push for full replacement when warranted.

04

Repair / restoration

Once claim is approved, we schedule and complete work — typically 4-6 weeks after approval.

Common Questions

Storm damage questions DMV homeowners ask.

My house was damaged in a storm — what should I do first?

Call us first (before your insurance company). We can do a free damage inspection, advise on whether you have a likely claim, and tarp the property if needed. Then you call your carrier with much better information.

Do you handle the insurance claim?

We don't file the claim for you — only you can do that with your carrier. But we provide all documentation, attend the inspection, negotiate scope, and handle the construction. We've done thousands of claims and we know what carriers need.

How fast can you get to my house after a storm?

Typically 24-48 hours during normal conditions. For major regional storm events we may be slightly slower due to volume, but storm damage is always prioritized over other quotes.

What if the adjuster denies my claim?

We can help you appeal. We re-document the damage with our findings, cite carrier criteria, and provide professional opinion in writing. Many initially-denied claims get approved on appeal with the right documentation.

How much will I pay out of pocket?

Usually only your deductible ($500-$2,500 typical). The rest is covered by your homeowner's policy. Upgrades beyond like-kind replacement are out-of-pocket.

How long do I have to file a claim?

Most policies require filing within 12 months of the storm event. Some require notification much sooner. File as soon as you suspect damage.

Will my insurance rates go up if I file a claim?

For weather-related claims (acts of nature), typically no — and even when they do, the increase is far less than the cost of paying out-of-pocket. Talk to your agent for specifics.

Do you tarp houses for free?

For policyholders we're working with on a claim, yes — tarping is part of mitigation and is typically reimbursed by the carrier. For non-clients, we may charge for emergency tarping depending on logistics.
